Every year we look forward to welcoming artists and shoppers into our community for the Squash & Gobble Arts Bazaar & Fall Festival. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unfortunate cancellation of this year’s event due to the uncertainty and concerns associated with COVID-19. We, along with officials from the City of Greenville and the Muhlenberg County Health Department, explored many different options but concluded the social distancing requirements and limitations on gathering sizes created too much of a burden for the event to take place responsibly. This was an incredibly difficult decision to make, as it is one of our favorite events of the year, but we remain committed to prioritizing the health and safety of our community, partners, volunteers, artisans, and everyone else who make Squash & Gobble possible.
While this decision comes over 3 months before the festival, we want to be courteous to our artisans as well as our local & regional partners. Without knowing what regulations will be in place at that time, the months-long planning process cannot begin. We are, however, exploring options with our artisans to coordinate an online experience to showcase their art. Updates on a potential virtual event will be shared on the Greenville Tourism Facebook page.
Though our 2020 Squash & Gobble will not take place in the way that we intended, we will work hard to keep bringing the unique events you love, and we look forward to being able to Squash & Gobble with you all in 2021! Until then, craft shows and festivals across the state and country are being cancelled, so remember to support your local artisans! Take care of yourselves, and we will continue to do everything we can to help our communities stay safe, informed, and connected.
