Event Details

The Muhlenberg Miners and Music Festival is coming back to Paradise Park.

The Festival, Wednesday, July 4th, celebrates the county’s coal and deeply-rooted music heritage. The day begins at noon and will feature tours of the UMWA Miners Hall Museum, the Thumbpickers Hall of Fame Shotgun House and the Merle Travis Birth House. A local historian will give a rendition of the history of the Birth House and Paradise, KY.

While touring the various sites enjoy the celebrated sound of thumbpicking or bring your folding chair and just sit back and listen. We will have thumb pickers of all ages and skill levels. You may even want to bring your thumb pick and guitar and join the fun. If you’re hungry, we’ll have an onsite bar-b-que vendor, ice cream and soft drinks.

At 4 PM it’s a short walk to the Merle Travis Music Center to hear Thom Bresh, son of Merle Travis, live in concert. Thom is an incredible musician and accomplished producer. He boasts three Top 10 Records: “Homemade Love”, “Sad Country Love Song” and “Hey Daisy”. He is a two-time Grammy nominated producer for “Travis Pickin” by Merle Travis and “Wires in the Wood” by Thom Bresh. Thom is also an Academy Awards nominated producer for “Over You” by Lane Brody from the movie Tender Mercies. He has also appeared on numerous television shows ranging from Barbara Mandrell Show to the People’s Choice Awards to being featured on two HBO specials with Rich Little.

After the concert, take a break, grab a bite to eat and head to the Muhlenberg County Agriculture & Convention Center (adjacent to Paradise Park) to enjoy Muhlenberg County’s Fireworks display.

The Muhlenberg Miners and Music Festival, Thom Bresh concert, and fireworks display are completely free and everyone is invited to attend thanks to these generous sponsors: Muhlenberg Arts Council, Central City Tourism Commission, Greenville Tourism Commission and the Paradise Park Committee.
