Saturdays on the Square 2019!

Greenville, Ky. – Get on the road to an incredible summer in historic downtown Greenville, Kentucky and take the FREEway to family entertainment at the Greenville Tourism Commission’s 11th annual “Saturdays on the Square” free outdoor events and concert series.

The 2019 summer series kicks-off on June 29th with something new—or perhaps better described as “something old”!  As the first stop on the FREEway, The GTC is pleased to invite the public to the first-ever “pre-season social event” featuring the “Twilight Cruise-In & Antique Car Show”! At the car show, “Roy Kyle and the Hot Rod Cruisers” will take guests back in time with a live performance of oldies favorites.  This will not be the typical Saturdays on the Square “concert” as this evening is a “throwback tribute” to the humble beginnings of Saturdays on the Square 11 years ago. The live musical performance will take place on the small, round “Veterans Plaza Stage”. South Main Street will be closed to traffic at 3pm as vintage automobiles begin to line the square and will remain closed until the event concludes.  During the evening, attendees will be able to freely meander through the vintage vehicles showcased throughout the downtown area with the sounds of live oldies music completing the atmosphere. This event will begin at 6pm and conclude at 8pm. Interested in participating with a vintage automobile? There is no cost to have a vehicle in the show and, while supplies last, dash plaques will be distributed to all auto owner participants.  Contact GTC Director Colbi Ferguson at (270) 338-1895 to learn more! This, no-cost event, is a prelude to the free summer concert series that begins the following week with the first nationally-known act.

Then beginning July 6th, and on concert nights during the “Saturdays on the Square” regular season, Main Street in historic downtown Greenville, KY will transform into a premier outdoor concert venue. The concerts are FREE, and all are welcome!

The July 6th FREEway ramp leads to nationally-known, contemporary Christian band “Sidewalk Prophets”! With a career spanning three major label studio releases—2009’s These Simple Truths, 2012’s Live Like That and 2015’s Something Different (plus 2013’s celebrated holiday offering, Merry Christmas To You)—and multiple hits, including “The Words I Would Say,” “You Love Me Anyway” and “Live Like That,” among others, Sidewalk Prophets remains a mainstay at Christian radio. The Dove Award-winning band has sold nearly 700,000 albums and 1.6 million digital downloads. In addition, the group has garnered five No. 1 songs, eight top five radio singles and more than 11 million views on YouTube. They’ve been nominated for a Billboard Music Award, multiple K-LOVE Fan Awards and four Dove Awards, taking home the New Artist of the Year Dove in 2010. Over the course of their career, they’ve played for more than 2.5 million fans and counting. Buckle up for this great night of praise and worship on the summer FREEway trip! This July 6th concert will take place at 8pm Central Time on the GTC Performance Stage on Main Street in the heart of downtown Greenville.

The next FREEway route takes music lovers to Saturday, July 13th. Back by popular demand from last year’s series, Nashville’s #1 party band, “12 South” returns to the GTC Performance Stage! This band is one of the most sought-after entertainment bands in the country! This extremely talented group performs nationally at corporate events, charity galas, premier festivals and more!  The audience can expect a full-blown high-energy show with a variety of performers, dance choreography, outfit changes, props, specialized lighting and a wireless front line that will interact with the crowd. This group was a crowd favorite last year and was one of the most memorable performances ever at Saturdays on the Square! This concert will begin at 8pm Central Time.

On July 20th, the summer FREEway road trip continues to the first-ever “HWY-62 Bluegrass Festival” at Saturdays on the Square! Kicking off this bluegrass extravaganza, Muhlenberg’s Zeke Walters and “East to Nowhere” will take the stage at 6:30pm, followed by a 7pm performance by Greenville-native Derek Harris, and the “The Misty Mountain String Band”! At 8pm, the multi award-winning headliner of the night, “Dailey & Vincent” will continue the fun! Hailing from world famous stages such as Carnegie Hall, the Ryman Auditorium, and the Grand Ole Opry, Dailey & Vincent have earned three Grammy nominations, won four Dove Awards, claimed an astounding 35 IBMA honors (including three as Entertainers of the Year and three as Vocal Group of the Year), multiple #1 records, a Public Television Special and their weekly TV series, The Dailey & Vincent Show, on RFD-TV featuring guest artists Vince Gill, The Oak Ridge Boys, Diamond Rio, Tanya Tucker, and more. Greenville Tourism Co-Chair, Jamie Wells states, “We are grateful for the wonderful memories that have been made in historic downtown Greenville during the Saturdays on the Square Free Summer Concerts of the past 10 years.  This 11th season of events and concerts is truly special, offering even more FREE opportunities to experience the performing arts in Kentucky. “Saturdays on the Square” is entertainment at its finest and is all-around family-fun with wonderful opportunities to connect and socialize with friends. We are appreciative of the local residents and visitors who support Greenville’s businesses, restaurants, and inns throughout the entire year. From this year-long support, the GTC is able to continue offering live quality entertainment as an affordable experience in Western Kentucky by ‘keeping it free in Greenville’! We are very happy to bring these five very exciting and free event nights to the community and to guests from across the entire region. From the pre-season social and vintage car show with oldies on the Veterans Plaza Stage, all the way through the summer to the finale Tomcat 30 big stage concert featuring The Oak Ridge Boys, this summer on Greenville Square will be fun and free for all!”

As in years past event-attendees should bring lawn chairs. PLEASE NOTE! NEW THIS YEAR: as early as 2:00 pm on concert dates, guests will be allowed to set up lawn chairs. In previous years, lawn chair set up was self-guided and could occur somewhat “at will” on the concert days. Due to safety concerns and in order to support the needs of the downtown merchants and their clients, concert guests will only be able to set up their chairs as early as 2pm on concert day, but not before. The GTC requests the patience and understanding as this change in policy is implemented. GTC staff will be onsite to assist guests.

Given the concerts are hosted outdoors, weather can play a factor. Every effort will be made to produce the concerts on Main Street in downtown Greenville. In the event of inclement weather, alternative locations or cancellations will be communicated. For real-time updates, be sure to “Like” the Greenville Tourism Commission Facebook page.
