Greenville, KY – The Greenville Tourism Commission is pleased to present the 9th annual “Squash & Gobble Arts Bazaar and Fall Festival.” This signature arts and crafts event and family fall festival is set for Saturday, September 16th from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. The Squash & Gobble festival celebrates the arts while offering families a fun-filled FREE fall festival.
The 2017 festival will feature 120+ artisans from across the region plus artisans from Indiana and Tennessee. A record setting 123 artisan booths are confirmed with more being added daily! The vendors will line the downtown sidewalks with creations in jewelry, fabrics, paintings, drawings, stained glass pieces, leather goods, floral arrangements, pottery, primitive furniture and much more. Be prepared to peruse each and every booth for an incredible day of shopping!
The chainsaw woodcarving demonstration is again on the schedule! This popular art demo will be located in the parking lot of Edward Jones Investments on North Main. Bear Hollow Wood Carvers, leaders in the chainsaw wood carving industry, will be carving throughout the day creating two one-of-a-kind benches to be used in Greenville area parks following the event.
New this year is a glass blowing demonstration by Louisville, Kentucky based The Glass Talisman. Glass artist Gail Oyler will be bringing this unique form of art to Greenville for the first time ever! Watch as she uses fire and heat to transform glass into custom, one-of-a-kind designs. She will also be bringing her current inventory of glass selections for attendee’s perusal and purchase. In addition, an airbrush and caricature artist will be located in The Crossing, creating custom pieces for guests for an extra fee.
New to the event this year is 12’ x 20’ interactive custom children’s mural. Children of all ages will have the opportunity to bring color and life to this custom creation!
The fall festival element of the event is all about family fun. There will be a wide variety of FREE activities for the kids at the 2017 Squash and Gobble including pumpkin painting, guitar painting, pony rides, balloon twisting, mechanical pumpkin and petting zoo.
This year, activities have been expanded and will feature several new attractions. One of the new additions is a 50’ x 70’ Giant Jumping Jack o’Lantern located at the corner of Main and West Main Cross. This new attraction will accommodate many children for hours of bouncing fun! Also new to the event will be the Feller Express Trackless Train! This fun new attraction will be cruising through downtown all-day, free of charge, for the kiddos! In addition, SOAR will be hosting a special “Touch a Truck” event in the parking lot of the Greenville United Methodist Church. Kids of all ages will be able to see and touch trucks from various vocations including a fire truck, military vehicle, ambulance and more! Free books will be available while supplies last.
The old fashioned cornmeal-making demonstration is also back for 2017 with a gristmill stone grinder making up ready-to-buy cornmeal for attendees to purchase. Look for the demo in the middle of Main Street in the turning lane at the East Main Cross intersection!
A full food court will feature seasonal goodies like funnel cakes, homemade kettle corn, fried pies and roasted corn on the cob.
