Powderly, KY – The Muhlenberg Miners & Music Festival is coming back to Paradise Park, followed by the annual Freedom Fest fireworks display! Come celebrate the 4th of July holiday in Muhlenberg!

The Muhlenberg Miners & Music Festival celebrates the county’s coal and deeply-rooted music heritage. The day begins at 10:00 am on Monday the 4th and will feature guided tours of the UMWA Miners Hall Museum, the Merle Travis home, and the Thumbpicking Hall of Fame. There will be a special presentation at 11:30 am at the Merle Travis homeplace by a local historian giving a one-of-a-kind rendition of the homeplace’s history intertwined with personal anecdotes.

While touring the various sites enjoy the sweet sounds of thumbpicking during a special edition of ‘Picking in the Park,’ that will include an opportunity for thumbpickers of all ages and skill levels, to break out their guitar and join the fun!

breshThen at 2:00 pm make the short walk over to the Merle Travis Music Center to hear Thom Bresh, son of Merle Travis, live in concert. Thom is an incredible musician and accomplished producer. He boasts three Top 10 Records, 1976’s “Homemade Love” and “Sad Country Love Song” and 1977’s “Hey Daisy.” He is a two-time Grammy nominated producer for “Travis Pickin” by Merle Travis and “Wires in the Wood” by Thom Bresh. Thom is also an Academy Award nominated producer for “Over You” by Lane Brody from the movie Tender Mercies. He has also appeared on numerous television shows ranging from the Barbara Mandrell Show to the People’s Choice Awards to being featured on two HBO specials with Rich Little.
After the concert, take a break, grab a bite to eat and head to the Muhlenberg County Agriculture & Convention Center (adjacent to Paradise Park) after dark to enjoy Muhlenberg County’s Annual Freedom Fest Fireworks display. This traditional display is the largest in the county and will be a delight for folks of all ages.

The Muhlenberg Miners & Music Festival, Thom Bresh concert, and fireworks display are completely FREE and everyone is invited to attend thanks to these generous sponsors: Greenville Tourism Commission, Central City Tourism Commission, Muhlenberg Arts Council, Super 8 Hotel – Central City location and the National Thumbpickers Hall of Fame.Concessions will be available on site (Muhlenberg Music & Miners Festival only) and don’t forget the lawn chairs!
